5 Signs You're Not Getting Enough Vitamin D

ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH VITAMIN D?

I see so many clients in clinic who are experiencing low levels of vitamin D without even realising it! It’s estimated that approximately 1️ in 5 of us experience low levels of vitamin D with this being more prevalent in winter months. Some people may not have any signs at all whilst others experience a whole host of unwanted symptoms. Read on to find out more.

You may not get enough Vitamin D if:

✅ You are pregnant or are breastfeeding ✅ You don’t get enough sunlight (especially during winter!) ✅ You don’t take supplements (it’s hard to get enough Vitamin D from the foods you eat alone) ✅ You have naturally darker skin. The darker your skin is the more sun you need to get the same amount of vitamin D as a fair-skinned person. ✅ You’re aged 65 or older ✅ You are overweight

You may be experiencing low levels of Vitamin D if you:

  1. Suffer from bone and muscle weakness

  2. Are prone to catching colds or other infections

  3. Experience tiredness and fatigue

  4. Have trouble sleeping

  5. Are experiencing low mood, anxiety or depression

  6. Are struggling to lose weight

  7. Are experiencing gut problems

If you think you may have a vitamin D deficiency, you should see your GP or have a blood test to check your vitamin D levels.

Why is vitamin D so important? It’s a well-documented fact that vitamin D is important for good overall health and strong and healthy bones. It’s also one of the most important vitamins for your immune system to work optimally, so that your body is able to fight illness and heal well. It’s also vital for muscle function, cardiovascular function and to ensure the respiratory system is working optimally. Research shows that vitamin D deficiency is correlated with increased risk of common cancers, autoimmune diseases and high blood pressure.
